January 16, 2009 NASHVILLE -- A big drug company owes Tennessee more than $11 million for ads that went too far. Eli Lilly has settled a lawsuit for allegedly promoting Zyprexa for patients and uses the drug was never approved for. Zyprexa is intended to treat certain psychological disorders, but Eli Lilly marketed it for depression, disrupted sleep, nausea and gambling addictions. The company gave doctors incentives to prescribe it to kids. The settlement money will go toward compensating healthcare programs. |
