{mosimage}By now, you have probably heard about that reporter who hurled his shoe at President Bush in Baghdad. No matter if you like G.W. or not, let’s just be happy it was a shoe and nothing else. Everyone (including Bush who donned his trademark smirk after footwear grazed his face) seemed to find humor in this.

I, on the other hand, started thinking, “What kind of shoe was this dude wearing and could it have caused Bush major head injury?”

That said, I lined up five types of men's shoes to see which one would be the most deadly when used as a piece of sartorial weaponry.

Approximate weight: 2-3 pounds total

Fabrication and framework: The slip-on is easy to take on and off, therefore making it effortless to use as a weapon. The heel is bulky enough, yet the overall structure is lightweight.

Threat level: Moderate. The signature horse bit hardware has the potential of causing minimal damage.

Approximate weight: 2-3 pounds total

Fabrication and framework: Similar to the Gucci loafer, but the leather is sleek and glossy, making it more aerodynamic, suitable for hurling attacks. The pronounced stacked heel and the narrow toe both have the potential to cause more damage.

Threat level: Moderate. Using this or the Gucci loafer as a weapon will garner similar results.

Approximate weight: 2-3 pounds total

Fabrication and framework: Made with a half rubber sole and laces. The laces make it more difficult to take on and off, therefore making it harder to handle. Much like the Ferragamos, the gloss finish does give it aerodynamic advantage.

Threat level: Moderate. The laces can also be used as a sling to hurl the shoe at its target.

Approximate weight: 5-6 pounds total

Fabrication and framework: Very heavy duty. Made with a leather upper and rubber sole. The shoe width is considerable and the 8 inch shaft, 2 inch heel and flat toe make it very dangerous. The motorcycle-inspired hardware can also be deadly. The boot style can make it difficult to remove at a moments notice and the heft can limit the travel distance.

Threat level: High. The weight of the boot combined with the hardware can induce generous harm.

Approximate weight: 1-2 pounds

Fabrication and framework: According to the website, “Crocs are made of PCCR, a closed-cell material that virtually eliminates odor.” Easy to take on and off as well as lightweight – but the form may work to its disadvantage.

Threat level: Low. Using the shoe in an attack may be like throwing a balloon at your target.
