Nashville is the city that is home to me since I arrived here in the U.S. to work as a postdoc at the Department of Cardiology Vanderbilt University Medical Center. It 's a quiet town, slow paced and bucolic, the only government "blue" (Democrat) in ocean "red" (Republican). Nashville is mainly known as a city of country music, and not at all, Keith Urban , husband of the famous Australian Nicole Kid-man, lives nearby with his wife and infant. And 'a unique experience to walk to downtown Nashville.

At every corner you hear country music playing inside and outside the local people around with hats and boots. It seems to live in a modernized town of Far West, where instead of a horse, people turn "riding" a giant pickup.

Just outside the city, you can visit the residence of the seventh U.S. president Andrew Jackson. The house , donated by his descendants, is run by a voluntary association composed of over sixty women (and, let me say, in an enviable) that guide you from room to room telling stories and lifestyles of the time. Two things I was particularly impressed by Andrew Jackson: his devotion to his wife (to the point that after his death, he hung his portrait in front of the bed that was the first face he saw when he woke up and the last before sleep), and willingness to accommodate anyone who came to his door.

Traveling even further out you meet one of the main attractions: the first and original works of whiskey Jack Daniel's , where you can see all the steps in the process, sitting on deck chairs on the veranda and enjoy a fresh lemonade. The works of Jack Daniel's is located in a small town called Lynchburg . Upon entering this town, the first thing you notice is the quiet and almost no cars, except those of the tourists. The City Hall is located at the center of the main square, surrounded by shops and small restaurants. Every time I go in Lynchburg (now I have no fewer than three visits!) I stopped for lunch in a small restaurant serving hand-squeezed lemonade (absolutely fantastic) and where possible, of Saturday, witness the performance of a country music band old style. Just to be clear, the youngest of the group has less than 60 years!

Nashville, however, is not only known for his playful side, but especially as a university city. And that's why one of the major parks in Centennial Park, was built a Pantheon, a symbol of university culture. Nashville is home to three major universities, the Ten State (Public state universities), the Belmount (private Catholic) and Vanderbilt (private university), and various technical universities scattered throughout the city. Vanderbilt University, founded in 1873 thanks to the generous donation from tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt , is considered the Harvard of the South, for the quality of his college and medical school. The hospital itself is considered among the best in the U.S., particularly the Department of Pediatrics is among the 10 best ever. In recent years, is also growing the department of cardiology and oncology, attracting many big names in the industry as the current director of the department of cardiology, Douglas B. Sawyer, MD, Ph.D.

Nashville, finally, is a city where the lifestyle is still hectic as that of large American cities, where you can relax by the lake and enjoy peace and tranquility of nature.
