Man charged after police say he shot wife PDF Print E-mail

A Clarksville man was arrested and charged with attempted murder on Saturday night after police said he shot his wife.

Timothy Dale Atnip, 53, who gave a 243 Collier Road address, was charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, according to a Clarksville Police Department news release. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

According to the news release, at 6:38 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a 911 call from a man claiming to be Atnip. The man said he'd shot his wife, according to the release.

The man said his wife, Yon Atnip, 53, was lying on the floor bleeding, according to the release. He also said he had put down his gun.

Police arrived at 243 Collier Road and found Yon Atnip lying on the floor.

Timothy Atnip was at the residence and said several times he shot his wife, according to the release.

An ambulance rushed Yon Atnip to Gateway Medical Center. From there, emergency crews took her to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition, according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing, and the lead investigator is Detective Tim Anderson, 931-648-0656, ext. 4003.
