Everyone in Washington, Israel and Europe have bet on his "weakness"
or compared to Jimmy Carter will have to revise their judgments.
While seven of his predecessors were not reached, Barack Obama has
succeeded in getting Congress to reform the health system. The lesson
will be heard abroad, in Moscow, Jerusalem: Obama is tough.
Politically, it is a victory similar to that of November 4, 2008 on John McCain.
The first gave him the presidential legitimacy. This gives him the
authority. The price of a huge effort, Democrats have averted the
failure of 1994.
The Republicans who already saw themselves masters of Congress after
the November elections, are less self-confident, even if they were seen
parading the balconies with banners of the Capitol:
- K.I.L.L T.H.E B.I.L.L
Fifty of them are committed to campaigning on the "Repeal" means the
revocation of the law. But he is not sure that they find very
appropriate in a few months to campaign to remove their coverage to
children newly insured.
Obama (finally) managed to establish itself as the leader of the
majority. He succeeded in rallying the left, which had fallen into
apathy. At seven months before the elections, the Democrats have a
leader, which is not true of Republicans.
In addressing the insurance companies, he found the momentum that
brought him to power and he intends to continue with financial
regulation. Banks are preventable ... (The Republicans have their
already indicated qui'ls would not do much forward to defend).
The health reform had become a test of Obama's ability to govern.
In the words of Ashley Evans, 23, in the crowd who had come manifest for reform on Capitol Hill:
- “If the Democrats pass this reform, the chances of government increases exponentially“.
More than health insurance, which was delivered last year was a fight
identity on the role of government. Debate that will end (temporarily)
with the elections next November.
