Nevada County sheriff’s deputies said Tuesday they are still “trying to get to the bottom” of what appears to be a multi-state pot operation after Nashville, Tenn., police discovered nearly $100,000 sealed in bags with marijuana residue during a traffic stop. Nashville Police officers stopped two cars and found the cash sealed in vacuum food storage bags, Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal said.

The drivers of the cars had connections to Placer and Nevada counties, Royal added, leading to search warrants being served at a storage shed in Placer County and at a residence at On A Rock Court off McCourtney Road, near Clear Creek School.

The house in Nevada County was apparently being used for the sole purpose of growing marijuana, Royal said. Deputies found a complete growing operation, as well as 80 “good-size” marijuana plants.

The “caretaker” had seven prescriptions for medical marijuana, five of which were illegal because they were for out-of-state patients, Royal said.

“The sheer volume of plants is of great concern,” Royal said. “It doesn’t sound like medical purposes. It sounds like a for-profit operation.”

Royal added that the case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.

The location in Placer County netted several pounds of processed marijuana, Royal said. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment further on the ongoing investigation.
