The Nashville Sounds have named George King their new general manager. King, a 15 year baseball veteran, has spent the past four years as the Pacific Coast League’s vice president of business and operations, supervising all aspects of operations for the league, as well as marketing and communications. King has worked for the Phoenix Fire birds, the San Francisco Giants and Major League Baseball’s Arizona Fall League. King also served as the vice president and general manager of independent minor league club the Valley Vipers. King’s appointment came Wednesday, the same day the AAA ball club announced final league approval for the sale of the franchise to MFP Baseball, owned by partners Masahiro Honzawa, Steve Posner and Frank Ward. MFP Baseball made its offer for the Sounds in October, and has already started $2 million worth of renovations to Greer Stadium for the 2009 season opener April 9 against the New Orleans Zephyrs. The Sounds, a Milwaukee Brewers affiliate, have been playing at Greer for 31 years. |
