Rocketown, the popular downtown hangout and youth ministry for teens, has found a new downtown home. According to the Davidson County Register of Deeds Web site, Rocketown has purchased property bordered by Lea Avenue and 4th and 5th Avenue South for $3.2 million. The site is near Rocketown’s current location, at 401 6th Avenue South. According to a Rocketown employee, the current site will close June 13, with the new location scheduled to open in July. Much like the current location, an existing warehouse will have to be converted to make way for the youth ministry, which will continue to include a coffee bar and skatepark. Rocketown is having to relocate to make way for an expansion of Korean Veterans Boulevard in conjunction with a new convention center downtown. The Metro Development and Housing Agency voted in November to purchase the existing Rocketown site for $5.6 million and to assist with moving expenses. |
