March tourism in Nashville will be boosted by the 2010 Southeastern Conference Basketball Tournament and 30 conventions and events booked by the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau. According to the Nashville Sports Council, the SEC tournament had an average $10 million economic impact in 2006 and 2001, the last two times Nashville hosted it. The 2006 tournament produced $14.4 million in economic impact, 183,122 spectators, 700 credentialed media members and 11,282 hotel room nights, according to the council. This year’s tournament is March 11-14 at Bridgestone Arena downtown. The Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau announced today that 39,400 people will attend the 30 conventions and events scheduled this month. That’s down from 39 conventions that brought 46,000 people in March 2009. |
