{mosimage}NASHVILLE, Tenn -- Nashville-based DisastersNet, Inc., which develops and implements fully automated, web-based emergency management systems for use in hospitals and other industries, today announced that it is poised for rapid growth in 2009, thanks to the company's growing customer base, expanded product offerings and marketplace demand. DisastersNet's flagship product, called DIMS (Disaster Incident Management System), allows hospitals and other organizations to conduct training exercises and to manage real-time emergencies using the federal Incident Command System (ICS). The Joint Commission and the federal government have put greater emphasis on utilizing ICS since the events of 9/11. All U.S. hospitals are required to conduct a minimum of two emergency training exercises per year and to complete extensive reporting on their results.
According to DisastersNet's chief executive officer Gene Kirby, "Over
the past 10 years, disasters have increased by 30 percent in the United
States, and we unfortunately expect the numbers to continue to rise.
Looking specifically at health care, it's critical that hospitals, as
our 'first receivers' in disasters, have an effective, easy-to-use
system in place to prepare for and respond to emergency situations."
Because it is customized, automated and web-based, DIMS saves hospitals
and other organizations time and money, while allowing for a more
efficient process and improved communication that can end up saving
lives. In the past, safety officers have had to manage many of these
processes by hand on paper, which can be cumbersome, confusing and
inefficient.
With DIMS, an organization's incident commander (the person in charge of
the response or exercise) is able to activate the appropriate template
for the event and deploy the incident command team members, all from a
desktop computer or portable device. Organizations using DIMS can create
external and internal disaster scenarios for specific vulnerabilities or
risks. In addition, DIMS captures every action that takes place during
the incident or exercise, omitting the labor-intensive process of
compiling data necessary for process improvement and reimbursement.
Effective Dec. 31, 2008, DisastersNet entered into a three-year
agreement with HealthStream,
which provides research and learning solutions to the health care
industry. HealthStream will offer DIMS as a new disaster management and
training tool to its client base, which includes approximately 2,400
hospitals. DisastersNet will assist HealthStream in the sales and
support of the DIMS service.
Behind the company and the DIMS product is the seasoned DisastersNet
management team, which has more than 100 years of combined experience in
front-line emergency management,
information security and
entrepreneurial ventures:
--
W. Eugene Kirby, Jr., CEO, has more than three decades'
experience in emergency response/business management. He is former
founder, chairman and president of Dialogic Communications
Corporation, an industry leader in automating emergency response
notification.
--
Chris Riddle, president and co-founder, has over 20 years of
health care safety, security and emergency management experience. Most
recently, he was the chief safety officer for Ascension Health System.
--
Bryant G. Tow, COO and EVP, has two decades of experience in
the information technology industry. Most recently, he was global
director of security services for Unisys, Corp.
Subscriptions to DIMS are eligible for grant funding. The system was
designed with the flexibility to easily adjust to the intricacies in the
command structures of most industry sectors and municipalities.
