The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday the agency is lifting a ban on pilots flying under the influence of mild to moderate antidepressants.

The FAA lifted the ban on four medications: Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa and Lexapro.

Up until now, use of those medications led to pilots being automatically banned from flying duties.

The FAA said use of these antidepressants will be approved on a case-by-case basis, as long as the pilots have been satisfactorily treated on the medication for at least 12 months.

The change will affect pilots at all national carriers, including Dallas-based Southwest (NYSE: LUV) and Fort Worth-based American Airlines Inc. (NYSE: AMR).
