The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday the agency is lifting a ban on pilots flying under the influence of mild to moderate antidepressants. Up until now, use of those medications led to pilots being automatically banned from flying duties. The FAA said use of these antidepressants will be approved on a case-by-case basis, as long as the pilots have been satisfactorily treated on the medication for at least 12 months. The change will affect pilots at all national carriers, including Dallas-based Southwest (NYSE: LUV) and Fort Worth-based American Airlines Inc. (NYSE: AMR). |
