Hotel occupancy on Oahu was up 7.3 percentage points to 82.3 percent for the week ending Feb. 27. As compared with the same week last year, though, the average price of a hotel room on Oahu fell 7 percent to $144. Statewide occupancy slipped 4 percentage points to 76.5 percent, while room rates slid 8.6 percent to $167. Occupancy and room rates for other Hawaii islands were as follows: • Maui occupancy rose 7.3 percentage points to 80.9 percent, while room rates dropped 8.9 percent to $219; • Kauai occupancy decreased 6.2 percentage points to 62.6 percent, while room rates plunged 10.9 percent to $177; and • Big Island occupancy declined 6.6 percentage points to 57.9 percent, while room rates plummeted 12.3 percent to $152. Nationwide hotel occupancy was up 1.3 percentage points to 55.3 percent, while room rates eased downward 4.7 percent to $96.
