aotr.gifThis page brings you to know my way of thinking, and prepare to face a trip to the USA. It 'a philosophy of life, is a way to deal with travel, which still applies to all my experiences in Italy and around the world.

I'm not imposing anything on anyone, be aware of what you say and meditate on these reflections.

The first concept, the basis of any trip, is freedom. With the exception of the USA, no other country leads you to the search for absolute freedom. The road, the great vistas that you lose sight of an eye, whether you're on the Great Plains or you're on the edge of the Grand Canyon, and the desire for freedom of Route 66, the dream of the Coast to Coast, in fact there are a set of elements that will push this freedom ..... the urge to scream and let off steam, get out "shoes" of everyday ...... and give their side of their personality, most often repressed in our unconscious . Travel Philosophy | Travel

The quest for freedom in the first place you get oragnizzandosi traveling alone (tourism do-it-yourself). Here then, who strongly advised not to deal with organized trips, especially with traveling by bus. The United States is a vast, distances exaggerated, more if you put the low speed roads, the risk of being your vacation by bus. E 'unthinkable to face such a complete tour of the USA in 15-20 days, as promised by tour operators. Think about it these days with up early at 6 am, and then head on the bus for 8-10 hours, lunch break and finally arrive at your destination. Get off the bus and you have just enough time to "glimpse" the view and taking classic 3 or 4 photos, just to say "I was there" stage ..... fixed in the souvenir shop and away again for other centiania of km.Alla journey's end you'll have a nice photo reportage but few memories of places barely touched and experienced.

We must not only take 4 pictures to know or remember the various places and we must dwell for hours to discover the hidden places, less famous (unfortunately they only go in search of the classic place for photos ... or what guides advertise eriviste) should visit the area on foot or by other means ... basically go always looking for new sensations.

Imagine visiting the Grand Canyon with an organized tour: visit the South Rim the most tourist (hotels shops etc..) And the usual picture-postcard views. Imagine an experience of your own free .... You can rent a horse, hiking and biking in mouintain even with the jeep and get this in the gorges of the Canyon or along the raging Colorado River. Not everyone knows for example that there is the North Rim (north side) ... it just never, ever beat and no tour takes you to his knowledge. They say it is much, much more charming and fascinating side more famous.

The spirit of freedom and adventure but has its greatest aspiration in trips made by self (alone ).... in trips made crafts, prepared after hours and hours of discussions with friends, books and books to see .. ... you'll have fun from the first moments, your imagination leads you to think about already, sitting on your sofa at home, how will your trip. In an organized trip there is not much fun, you'll be thrilled with the maximum of returning to collect your tickets for the rest leave it to passively vosta guide you tossed here and there!

If you plan to achieve one of those trips where you take into account an important factor: the Schedule. Planning is at the base of each trip (and the U.S. must be done accurately), the smallest displacement must be studied in terms of distances, places to visit and especially the time available (sometimes time is limited so the more good the more you rationalize your moments).

That's roughly the way I act out: First, try to have as much information as possible: books, magazines, guidebooks and the internet from where I get news first thing in the territory, what to see, museums and curiosities of various kinds.

This phase of study / collection comes out a list of places to visiatre divided according to their importance. At this point a valuable ... the map. Based on the weather "untouchables" are the path studied by including additional locations that are nearby. In this way you get a first route to be made. Evaluated different solutions for the route, it can happen that by another road, or approach it in a different manner, we may gain time, or may be cheaper from other locations on the plane as it maybe for that city costs less.

Once drafted this route if it is studying its feasibility based on two important factors (in the U.S. especially): distance and time. Roughly quantified movements, measuring km to make you an initial idea of time to devote to driving. Keep in mind that the speeds are low, around 100 km / h on freeways, this limit falls if you visit the areas where the lack of highways (large parks or the coast of California for example).

Similarly quantified in terms of time, your stops, or better set of priorities for your visits. Prefer to spend 3 or 4 hours to visit a town or would rather spend a day immersed in the character of one of the many national parks ... choose according to your needs. Adding the time of displacement plus the hypothetical time to see things come out in broad terms the places where to rest.

There are many sites that allow you to do this planning (find addresses on the page of links). Plan your route on paper and then check it on these sites. in particular give you information about the miles and the estimated time (they are simple street directories), in addition to this information tells you where to stay, what to see interesting in the neighborhood and many other useful information.

Proper planning is one that allows us to optimize all your time available, it means being able to see well as much as possible, sometimes within a single day. Less downtime you have more things we can see. Avoid making a route that passes the same point several times, consider for example if agreed to spend several days in one place and move from there to visit the surrounding areas and then returning in the same hotel ... because it's too boring to have ever suitcase in hand.

Returning to the means of transport, as I have said many times, the car is the best way to discover the USA. If your trip cuts across various places in the United States, the shift is more convenient than by airplane, from both an economic point of view that loss of time. It 'a speech to be done for example if one wants to go to New York and then in Florida .... it is useless to hire a car and be all things to reach the Atlantic coast to Miami. Therefore to assess whether a shift is more convenient to go by car or plane, especially in the "middle" of the destinations you will not find anything and you'll have to miss even a day or more ..... just to move from one side to 'other.

A brief reference to the network of bus and train stations. Let's start with the latter. The Amtrak is the company that operates the railways, has a fairly extensive network throughout the territory. The only major flaw is that the trains (luxurious) are a bit 'plan: there is high speed and accordingly the transfers are endless. I do not recommend this option to use half, partly because not part of American culture to use the train to travel (the plane is the most used ... and it is used almost as a coach).

The Bus has a very special charm, who does not know the famous gray Greyhound bus. Instead of the train is widely used in transport distance, thanks all'efficenza and cost. The Greyhound (Greyhound) is himself a symbol of the freedom of Americans and is almost comparable sites as a convenience to the car. Esiston pass to the lump sum which can make trips to ride free of the second fixed price rates, making it a convenient method for those who do not have large sums of money.

A final hint about how to behave ..... we call it American way of life .... in short, as I live my trip on American soil, as also on the way to stand against them depends on the success of trip. Let me explain ... in order to live better can we identify with this experience as possible to their culture. Rightly speak of culture, ways of life completely different from our habits. E 'unthinkable to go to America and continue to think like we do in Italy, to keep our other habits .... comes out of a bad experience, and America not like.

This means that we should behave almost like an average American, and great freedom of mind in thinking .... no prejudices, and above all the rules. The rules of behavior, not just as a good tourist, I have to be met in a country that is not yours, so much to make a trivial example, but useful in everyday life, a tip is a must (obligation) to the States. The porters, taxi drivers and waiters are entitled to gratuity (and live there) and is rooted respect this custom and practice (if you speak with these people will tell you that we are only inhabitants of the beautiful country that we do not respect this rule ).... Then we go if you want to be treated as they should respect others.

Forget your customs food .... pasta and coffee will be a mirage ... Everywhere I go I try to understand and also know the local traditions in food .... then they appreciate the posts that you see. Try to eat as Americans eat, not so much for the kind of power (somewhat questionable) but because if you want a plate of spaghetti with sauce ....... maybe it's worse ...!!!
